This Privacy Policy explains how Buy-In Boss ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use the app. By using Buy-In Boss, you agree to the practices described below. This is a plain-language summary intended for transparency; it does not constitute legal advice.
The short version
Buy-In Boss is designed to work on your device. The tournaments, players, tables, buy-ins, and payouts you create are stored locally on your iPhone. We do not run accounts, and we do not sell your data, ever. We do collect anonymous usage statistics about how the app itself is used, described under Analytics below, and none of the information you enter about players is part of it.
Information stored on your device
To make the app work, Buy-In Boss stores the data you enter, including:
- Tournament details (names, dates, buy-in amounts, re-buy limits, starting stacks, notes)
- Player information you choose to add (names, nicknames, optional phone, email, and photo)
- Table setups, seating assignments, knockouts, placements, chops, and payouts
- Payout structures you build and save
- App preferences such as your selected region, currency, and time format
This information is saved on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. It is stored locally only — the app does not sync your data to iCloud or to any other cloud service, and we have no way to see it. If you back your iPhone up, the app's data is included in that backup, which is handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy.
Contacts and photos
When you add a player, you can type their details in by hand or import them from your address book. Importing uses Apple's system contact picker, which runs outside the app: we only receive the single contact you tap, and the app never gets access to your address book as a whole.
Player photos work the same way. You choose one image through Apple's system photo picker, crop it to fit, and the cropped result is stored with that player on your device. The app does not request access to your photo library, and does not use your camera.
Nicknames
Every player has a nickname alongside their real name, so that results can be shared without exposing anyone's real name. Shared results use nicknames by default. You can choose in Settings to show real names instead, or both together — that choice is yours to make for the people you play with, and it applies only to results you actively share.
Phone numbers, email addresses, and photos are never included in a shared result, in any setting, and nothing is shared unless you choose to share it.
Checking for updates
So that we can tell you when a new version is available, the app periodically requests a small configuration file from buyinboss.com. This is an ordinary web request that sends no personal information, no tournament data, and no identifier we assign to you. Like any web request, our host may record standard server log information such as your IP address and the time of the request. We do not use these logs to build a profile of you.
Information we do not collect
- We do not require you to create an account or sign in.
- We do not collect or store your tournament data on our own servers.
- We do not use advertising software, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties except as described under Analytics below.
Information about other people
Names, nicknames, phone numbers, emails, and photos you add for other players are entered by you for your own convenience and remain on your device. You are responsible for having permission to store information about other people. You can edit or delete any player at any time.
Purchases
Buy-In Boss offers optional in-app purchases. Those transactions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details, and Apple's handling of purchase information is governed by Apple's own privacy policy. All the app stores on your device is whether a purchase is currently active.
Diagnostics
If you opt in through your device settings, Apple may share anonymized crash and performance diagnostics with us to help fix bugs. This data does not identify you personally.
Analytics
The app collects anonymous usage statistics using Google Analytics for Firebase, so that we can see which features are used and where people run into trouble. This tells us things like how many tournaments are created, how often a payout structure is changed, and which screens are opened.
These statistics never include anything you type in. No names, nicknames, notes, phone numbers, email addresses or photos are sent, and neither are the names of your tournaments or tables. Events carry counts, durations and settings only, and amounts of money are recorded as broad ranges rather than exact figures.
Google receives this information and processes it under its own privacy policy. Alongside the events, the service records an identifier it generates for your installation of the app, your device model, your operating system version, the app version, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. We have switched off the collection of Apple's advertising identifier and the identifier for vendor, and the data is not used for advertising or ad personalisation.
The identifier is tied to your installation rather than to you, and deleting the app resets it. We use these statistics only to improve Buy-In Boss.
Children
Buy-In Boss is intended for adults organizing recreational poker games and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Our age suitability page sets out who the app is for and why it carries the age rating it does.
Your choices
Because your data lives on your device, you stay in control. You can edit or delete any tournament, player, or table within the app, and you can remove all data by deleting the app from your device.
The usage statistics described under Analytics are collected from the moment the app is first opened, and the app does not currently offer a way to switch them off. Deleting the app stops any further collection and resets the installation identifier.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
