In short
Buy-In Boss is a record-keeping tool for adults who host private poker games. It carries a gambling content rating because it displays real buy-in amounts and calculates real payouts. It is not a game, and you cannot gamble in it.
What the app does
A host uses Buy-In Boss to organise a tournament that happens in person, around a real table. The app records who is playing, seats them across tables, counts buy-ins and re-buys as the night goes on, works out how the prize pool should be divided, and keeps the result afterwards. It is the same job somebody would otherwise do with a notepad and a calculator.
What the app does not do
- It contains no poker game, no card play and no simulated gambling of any kind.
- It does not accept, place or broker wagers.
- It does not process payments, hold funds, or transfer money between anyone.
- It does not distribute winnings. Players settle up between themselves, in person.
- It offers no odds, no betting advice and no way to play against the app or anyone else.
The only money in Buy-In Boss is numbers a host types in so the group can agree what is owed. Nothing financial passes through the app or through us.
Why the rating is what it is
Apple asks whether an app includes tools or information related to real money gambling. Buy-In Boss does, because a home poker tournament usually involves real money, and the app exists to keep track of it accurately. We answer that question yes, and the resulting age rating reflects the subject matter rather than any activity available inside the app.
Who it is for
Adults hosting a private game among people who already know each other. It is not designed for children, it is not marketed to them, and there is nothing in it for them to do.
Your responsibility
Laws about private gaming differ from place to place. Anyone organising a game is responsible for making sure it complies with the law where they are. Our Terms of Use cover this in full.
